Implementation Structure

The PrivacyMark System is administered by the following organizations.

  1. PrivacyMark Accreditation Body (JIPDEC)
  2. PrivacyMark Conforminity Assessment Body(15 Bodies)

Accreditation Body

Accreditation of PrivacyMark will be done by the Japan Information Processing Development Cooperation (JIPDEC), responsible for setting up requirements for the appropriate management of the PrivacyMark system, Conforminity Assessment Body to certify business operations and responding to complaints and providing consultation to consumers.

PrivacyMark System Committee

The committee is organized with scholars, learned individuals, representatives from business organizations, representatives of consumers and legal professionals to discuss the points noted below involving the PrivacyMark system.

  1. Establishment and revision of standards and regulations involving the PrivacyMark system
  2. Designating and revoking of the Conforminity Assessment Body
  3. Revoking of PrivacyMark Accreditation

Consumer Consultation Services

Services provided to consumers such as responding to inquiries concerning the protection of personal information and receiving complaints involving the PrivacyMark system. Inquiries and complaints are analyzed and reflected in recurrence prevention measures.

Conforminity Assessment Body

Of the organizations* that are eligible, the Conforminity Assessment Bodies are those that have applied for the accreditation and been accredited by the Accreditation Body(JIPDEC) through the PrivacyMark System Committee. Conforminity Assessment Bodies receive PrivacyMark Applications from private enterprises, assess conforminity and certificate PrivacyMark.

Conforminity Assessment Bodies should be trade associations and other organizations with rich store of knowledge in personal information protection and ability to implement PrivacyMark system. (Limited to non-profit organizations and trade associations established by Japanese law and/or others non-profit organizations admitted by the JIPDEC.)
